Artist of the Week is Back! At least for now. Out of the blue I found these guys called the Bronx/Mariachi el Bronx.
I don’t have too much info of them since I just found out about them an hour ago. The singer has an amazing voice and the band is awesome. I am a little confused as to what is what. This is what I got so far.
The Bronx is a rock band whom you would typically hear on games such as RoadRash and TonyHawk ProSkater. They are pure rock goodness. Mariachi el Bronx is a side project of the lead singer. The difference is that in the Mariachi, they are all dressed in the typical Mariachi outfit and are equipped with all typical acoustic mariachi instruments.
What do they sound like? To be honest, pure bliss. The songs are in English and the lyrics aren’t your typical mariachi lyrics. They are awesome. Trust me one listen you will be hooked. Here is a quick playlist I made of their videos. Oh yeah, their videos are awesome too.

No work for the week. Which means, I had plenty of free time on my hands. Most of my time has been put into discovering huayno. I decided to dig deep into my background. The more and more I listen, the more I want to discover. There are artists like William Luna and Max Castro whom I could listen to every day without getting bored. So what is huayno? I’ll try my best to define it.
Huayno is a genre of music that comes from the Andes of Peru, although it is also popular in Bolivia. It started out as a combination of traditional folk music and popular urban dance music. In a typical huayno song, you may hear the following instruments: flute, harp, panpipe, accordion, saxophone, charango, lute, violin, guitar, and mandolin. The guitar, violin and harp are by far the most popuplar instruments used in the genre. The vocals are usually high-pitched and sung in quechua and or spanish. I must admit that I like the quechua huaynos better than the spanish ones.

Moving on, I’ve decided to play around with podcasting. I will be working on reconnecting people outside of Peru to the huayno we once heard when we were growing up. It will be a monthly thing, let’s see what happens. More info will be posted later in the week. I’ll probably end up making an english version as well to see if I can introduce world to huayno. The music is too beautiful to not share around.
